$76 million in new Earth Day commitments
The Climate Champions initiative is celebrating Earth Day with $76 million in new philanthropic pledges for climate solutions in Canada. The new pledges are courtesy of three new donors:
- Brian and Joannah Lawson – $70 million over six years
- Consecon Foundation – $3 million over six years
- Sarah Abell
These new pledges build on the historic $405 million announced in November 2024 by nine families and foundations — bringing the total committed through the Climate Champions platform to $481 million.
“Momentum is building,” says Eric Campbell, CEO of Clean Economy Fund, the foundation behind the Climate Champions initiative. “Canada’s philanthropic community is stepping up in a big way to support giant leaps toward a safe, net-zero emissions future.”
The funding pledged today will support a wide range of charitable activities, including research, engagement and advocacy in areas like renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, electrification, clean transportation, green buildings and policy advocacy — all vital for Canada’s transition to a net-zero future.
